Can I install a vinyl flooring directly over my existing vinyl floor?
If your original vinyl floor was installed using a full spread adhesive method, then you can apply an embossing leveler to the original vinyl to smooth it out and then install the new vinyl.
Vinyl flooring is a type of multi-layered synthetic flooring. Made from materials like plastic, fiberglass and PVC, vinyl flooring typically comes in planks, tiles or sheets that can then be assembled. A core layer, potentially with an underlay or backing, makes up the bulk of the floor. Over this is an image layer, which can mimic a multitude of materials including wood and ceramic. A top wear layer of varying thickness protects the sublayers from damage
At ASAP Design, we offer an expert consultation to review your flooring needs and options depending on budget, style, and applications.
The wear layer of vinyl flooring is the top layer of the flooring that protects the design and color layer from wear and tear. It is made of clear vinyl and is measured in mils (thousands of an inch). 12 mil is common for residential and 20mil is common for commercial.
Every floor requires different maintenance. We will provide you with maintenance instructions depending on your flooring choice.
